Indiana Townships are responsible for providing fire protection to its residents, providing township assistance to the needy, maintaining the cemeteries within its boundaries, eliminating noxious weeds, creating and maintaining annual budgets and filings appropriately with the State of Indiana, among other things.
North Township residents are presently served by the LaPaz-North Township Volunteer Fire Department and Union North Ambulance Service. Beginning January 1, 2025, the North Township-LaPaz Fire Protection Territory will take effect, while still maintaining the volunteer fire department service.
The Indiana Township Assistance Standards serve as guidelines for offering support to those in need. These standards are proposed by the Trustee, adopted by the Township Board, and filed with the Board of County Commissioners. They undergo reviews and updates to ensure they reflect the changing costs of basic necessities.
Any individual requesting financial assistance from North Township must complete an application and interview with the Township Trustee. This process does not guarantee that assistance will be provided as all standards must be met before a determination can be made.
A Township Trustee can act as a notary public for residents within the township. If you need a document notarized, stop in during office hours with your document (unsigned) and picture identification.
While there is not a public library in North Township, its residents can obtain a library card at the Plymouth Public Library. North Township contributes funds so its residents can obtain a library card with the Township paying for one-half of the cost. You do not need to reach out to the Township, you simply go to the Plymouth Public Library and advise them that you reside in North Township!
